Equipment Manager / Mechanic

Location: Mill River Golf Course
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round 

Position Overview 

Mill River Golf Course is seeking a skilled and motivated Equipment Manager / Mechanic to oversee the maintenance repair, and performance of our golf course maintenance equipment fleet. This position is responsible for ensuring all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably to support daily golf course operations and our winter recreation program. This position reports to Golf Course Superintendent. 

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, excellent diagnostic skills, and experience working with a variety of turf maintenance equipment. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Inspect, diagnose, service, and repair a wide range of golf course maintenance equipment including diesel, gasoline, and electric-powered equipment. 
  • Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing on mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, sprayers, aerators, and other turf equipment. 
  • Maintain reels, bedknives, and cutting units to ensure optimal cutting performance. 
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine issues. 
  • Maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, and parts inventory. 
  • Manage parts ordering and maintain adequate inventory of essential supplies and replacement components. 
  • Ensure equipment meets safety standards and is operating properly before use. 
  • Oversee the equipment maintenance facility, ensuring a clean, organized, and safe workspace. 
  • Coordinate with the Superintendent and maintenance staff to prioritize equipment repairs and servicing. 
  • Train staff on proper equipment operation, care, and daily maintenance procedures. 
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and minor equipment modifications when required. 

 

Winter Operations Responsibilities 

This is a year-round position that also supports the golf course’s winter program. Responsibilities include inspection, maintenance, and repair of winter equipment such as snowmobiles, grooming equipment, and snow blowers used for winter recreational operations. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Previous experience as a golf course mechanic, small engine mechanic, or equipment technician preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of diesel, gasoline, and electric engines. 
  • Experience with hydraulic systems, electrical troubleshooting, and small engine repair. 
  • Familiarity with reel mower grinding and adjustment is considered an asset. 
  • Welding and fabrication experience is beneficial. 
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. 
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. 
  • Valid driver’s license required. 

 

Working Conditions 

  • Full-time, year-round position. 
  • Work performed primarily in a maintenance shop with occasional outdoor work. 
  • Ability to lift equipment parts and tools as required. 
  • Seasonal schedule flexibility may be required during peak golf and winter operations. 
  • Heated and air-conditioned shop. 

 

Compensation 

Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
Option for medical benefits.
