Don McDougall’s love of baseball began in the dusty red fields of rural Prince Edward Island. Growing up in the small community of Bloomfield Station, he spent his summers chasing fly balls in makeshift ball fields, sometimes little more than cleared patches of cow pasture, never imagining that one day he would help bring Major League Baseball to Canada.
Over the years, he built a distinguished career in business across industries including brewing, aerospace, and property development. Despite this success, Prince Edward Island was always home.
That commitment became especially meaningful in 2017 in West Prince, when Don purchased Mill River Resort. His investment and vision helped transform the property into the four-season destination it is today. Alongside Mill River, he also acquired Eagles Glenn Golf Course in Cavendish, further strengthening his connection to golf on Prince Edward Island.
At Mill River, that vision extended beyond the resort itself. Through ongoing investment, the property has grown into not only a destination for visitors, but also a place where community and lifestyle come together — including the development of residential offerings that allow people to call Mill River home. He has also supported the surrounding community, including donating land for local recreation facilities such as a new baseball field, Don McDougall Park, and the West Prince Curling Rink.
Don McDougall’s contributions to business, sport, and community have earned him numerous honours. He was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002, named Chancellor of the University of Prince Edward Island in 2014, and appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2023.
